Its been a fantastic start to the year for the Momentum Tyne and Wear / Red Labour group. Our January meeting was on regional devolution with a great presentation by Harry Cross (Durham Momentum and Labour Young Socialists / Momentum Student & Youth NE) 50 people were present from across Tyne and Wear, Durham and Northumberland
Our February meeting was on NHS with Momentum speakers Dr Pete Campbell, student nurse and Bursary campaigner Ella Thorp and NHS Momentum (fellow NC member for NE) Joanne Land. This meeting had over 60 people at it, and agreed to organise a joint demonstration to Save the NHS on Sat 9 April (with Peoples Assembly, Keep on NHS Public, BMA and others) . And agreed to continue to build support for picket lines.
Our March meeting on building Labours Grassroots had 70 people at it, and included presentations from Rachel and Arman on how the Labour Party works (these documents can be shared) and a presentation from Diane on feedback from experiences new and old of getting stuck into Labour. Also contributions from Local labour councillors and branch, clp and trade union officers.
In between these we have held steering committees and are liaising with the other local groups in Teesside, North Tyneside, and the new group in Wansbeck.
